Hi! I'm Gail Janicola. I have been a certified childbirth educator since 1995. I am the mother of three children. My birth experiences were all very different, but each unique and special. I have had personal experiences with routine intervention and medication during labor, as well as completely natural childbirth (a goal that was realized only after I educated myself.) I believe deeply in a woman's ability to work with her body's signals to handle labor, and the power of continuous, effective support. I also have a great respect for the wise and appropriate use of modern technology and advanced medical procedures, and strive to create a balance between the two.
I often ask my students, "If discomfort and pain were not a part of pregnancy and birth, would you really want to wake up one morning and find that your baby just appeared swaddled neatly on your pillow? Would you want to eliminate every magical part of this baby's existence, from the moment you found out you were pregnant, to feeling the baby move, to connecting with your partner on the deepest level possible as you bonded over the shared creation of your child?" Without a doubt, you will learn how to alleviate pain and facilitate the progress of your labor. But, the underlying focus will be on the journey... the process of becoming a parent, becoming aware of your body, being inspired to make healthy choices for the rest of your life, and learning how to gain confidence as you effectively communicate with caregivers, family members and friends. You will gain a sense of empowerment that will influence you as a parent and as a person forever.
