October of 2016 was my TWENTIETH anniversary teaching The Bradley Method® of Natural Childbirth classes! I can hardly believe that a thing I never thought I would do became my life's work and passion!

I have given birth to four Bradley® babies of my own: Caleb, born Feb. 1994 in a hospital with an OB, and Anna Claudia, born Dec. 1995 in the same hospital with the same OB. I gave birth to my third child, Leo, in May 2005, at home with two fabulous midwives in attendance. My fourth baby, Phoebe, was born at home in August 2009. This last baby was born in the water into my own hands (with my midwives standing by)-- such a breathtaking experience!

A little about me: I am the eldest of seven children, raised in Orem, Utah. I was present at the midwife-attended births of my sisters (babies 6 & 7 for my parents) at the small, community hospital in Orem. It seemed to have an impact on me, as nearly all of my adult life has been spent doing birth work.

I have a degree from the University of Utah in Behavioral Science and Health, with a minor in Anthropology. I recently began a career at the University of Utah in the Geography Department as their Academic Coordinator. I know--quite a departure from my birth work! This was necessitated by my diagnosis of stage 3 ovarian cancer in August 2017. I needed a steady job with great benefits, and was lucky enough to be hired by the UofU. Throughout my treatment for cancer, I never stopped teaching The Bradley Method® classes. I am grateful that I was able to tolerate chemotherapy so well that I could continue teaching, as it grounded me with a sense of my regular routine, made me feel normal, useful, and allowed me to continue meeting the wonderful people who take my classes. My hair is now growing back, and I am officially in remission. I'm taking part in a study of a medication to suppress or prevent a recurrence of cancer. BTW, The Huntsman Cancer Institute is a spectacular place of healing.

I am a Certified Birth Attendant at Wasatch Midwifery & Wellness where I assist the midwife at births, performing clinical duties and providing labor support.
