My husband and I have been fortunate enough to have the pleasure of experiencing pregnancy and natural childbirth together. With the support and coaching of my husband, I gave birth to our daughter in March 2009.
The birth of my daughter disproves two often cited, but very erroneous, myths:
1. First-time mothers cannot handle/perform natural childbirth.
I went to into spontaneous labor one week after my proposed due date. I had back labor for more than 48 hours without any intervention or pain medication.
2. Natural childbirth is not compatible with a hospital birth.
My daughter was born in a hospital on a military post and not once did the hospital staff interfere with our wishes concerning our daughter’s birth.
It was the experience of attending The Bradley Methodâ classes along with the natural birth of our daughter that made me want to become an instructor. I truly want to pass along the knowledge and confidence that we gained from this 12-week course series to other expecting couples.
