Hello! My name is Karen. It's nice to "meet" you!

I'm a Texas Tech graduate, a happy wife to my husband Josh, and the mama of two amazing little girls!

I've been fascinated with birth for a long time, but it wasn't until our first pregnancy in 2014, when we began to explore childbirth education, that my journey with The Bradley Method® began.

Right away, we knew we wanted a comprehensive course – one that would cover everything from prenatal nutrition to postpartum care AND teach us tried-and-true techniques for pursuing a drug-free birth with minimal interventions.

Tens of thousands of families have depended on The Bradley Method® to help them deliver their babies both naturally and safely, whether in a home, hospital, or birth center setting.

We also wanted a course that focused on preparing the husband to be his laboring wife's greatest advocate, comfort, and source of support – in other words, her birth coach!

A friend of mine recommended The Bradley Method®... and the rest is history! We used this method for both of our births and I became a certified instructor in 2017.

In me, you'll find an open and honest, approachable friend and teacher. You'll learn how I personally encountered several "variations of normal" in my own births – all of which have given me the insight to speak to the "what-ifs" and "what-thens" that parents often have regarding labor and delivery.

As an instructor, my greatest goal is to provide an atmosphere of knowledge, support, and encouragement for my students, both before and after the baby is born. I'm here for you and your family!

In addition to teaching, I can help you establish your Birth Plan and connect you with any additional resources you might need, such adoulas, midwives, photographers, chiropractors, lactation consultants, etc.

I also have a Lending Library of resources on pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding, for you to explore! Often students will check out books for supplemental reading, in addition to our class requirements.

I hope to see you in my next class. Please don't hesitate to send me an email with any questions you might have.

Taking a Bradley Method® course has countless benefits!

I'll leave you with just a handful of my personal favorite take-aways, from my own experience as a student:
  • Being well-versed in the lingo of labor. Childbirth can seem like a distant foreign land with a language all its own – especially if you're expecting your first! Bradley Method® will teach you the vocabulary you need to know, to navigate your birth with confidence and clarity.
  • Knowing your own body. As a student, I was shocked at how much I didn't really understand (initially) about pregnancy and labor. Take cervical dilation, for example. I thought I knew the basics of this important physical change, but I was wrong! Bradley Method® will give you a deeper understanding of your body's incredible design, so you can welcome the natural process without confusion or unnecessary fear.
  • Giving informed consent. Did you know: the decisions you make about your birth can have long-lasting effects on your health and the wellbeing of your body, your baby, and your future births? If you know the right questions to ask, you can give true, informed consent to your caregivers. You might be surprised at the rights and choices that are yours!
  • Individual attention in class. Your Bradley Method® class is a great place to meet other expectant couples, ask a lot of questions, and have fun too! I typically teach 3 or 4 couples per series. This keeps classes small and personal.
  • Rehearsing labor. Don't worry – this doesn't mean faking a birth! :) It means... learning how to time contractions; discovering effective positions for labor; letting Dad practice his massage skills, etc. The in-class labor rehearsals turned out to be incredibly beneficial for us! When the time came for real labor, we knew what to do and how to do it, as a team!
  • Learning how to relax. Relaxation is key to reducing pain naturally. Does relaxation need to be taught? I think so! Just a fun fact: I'm still using the relaxation techniques I learned in class, four years ago, whenever I'm in pain or can't fall asleep.

  • A bonding experience. We look back on our time as Bradley Method® students with great fondness. Many good conversations (and laughs!) came out of our learning and practicing together. Watching my husband excel as my birth coach, is something I'll never forget!
