Home   About Me   My Classes   Why 12 Weeks?   Course Content

I have been studying and learning about birth since 2011 during my first pregnancy.  During that time, I was in Norway accompanying my husband on an expat assignment.  I had barely changed a diaper before, let alone been to a birth, so I knew that I needed to study up a bit.  I’m a learner by nature and I started reading all about pregnancy and childbirth.  I didn’t have access to English-speaking childbirth education classes so I had to rely on books and documentaries for my education.

Up until that point, I thought birth was just a means to an end and was something just to get through to have your baby.  Once I read that a natural birth was best for my baby and for me, I knew that was what I wanted to do.

After having my daughter in the hospital, supported by a midwife, I felt the amazing high that a natural birth brings.  I could barely communicate with my midwife during labor, but that didn’t much matter.  My body knew what to do.  It did not need her help, only her vigilance.

Two year later when I found out I was pregnant again, I was excited to feel that natural birth high again.  A short time later, I learned that I was carrying twins which was very exciting, but in the back of my mind I knew that my natural birth was going to be harder to achieve.

Boy, was I right.  During my pregnancy, back in the US I was healthy and happy, as were the boys I was carrying.  Yet, I still met resistance from doctors.  Here are some of the things that they said:  Mandatory cesarean at 37 weeks.  Strong suggestions to get an epidural.  Labor only in the bed with constant fetal monitoring.  Facing those kinds of birth expectations was scary and hard, but I knew in my heart that my body knew what to do.

In the end, I found a group of doctors that were supportive of a natural birth of twins and they saw me through my 40-week pregnancy to naturally deliver two healthy 7lb boys.

Because of these experiences, I want to help other women embrace a natural birth experience.  The Bradley Method ® is a great place to start and I am eager to teach you all that I know so that you too can have your best birth.
