Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm truly glad to know you're considering Bradley Method classes. 86% of couples taking Bradley Method® classes are able to meet their goal of having an unmedicated labor and delivery. This should help you know that you're signing up for something that really works!
In the classes we don't just focus on the birth, but on maintaining a healthy, low-risk, comfortable pregnancy. - We hold each other accountable to nutrition guidelines that have been shown to prevent pre-eclampsia and other pregnancy complications.
- We learn and practice specific exercises that tone and strengthen the back, perineum, and pelvic muscles to prepare them for birth.
- The key to the Bradley Method® is relaxation, and relaxation takes time to practice. The classes include time devoted to practicing a variety of relaxation techniques that can be powerful tools to deal with the pain of labor. These techniques can be powerful tools to strengthen connections between the mother and father as well!
- We discuss the crucial role of the father or "coach" in a natural birth and help give him confidence and concrete methods to help the mother have a safe and joyous birth.
- We do activities, watch videos, and hear from couples who have used the Bradley Method
® to achieve their goals of a natural birth.
- After the birth is the best part of all--the baby! We will spend some time in the classes discussing breastfeeding, infant care, and adjusting to life with a tiny new member of the family.
Twelve classes may seem like a lot...and it is. But that is a good thing, because practice and preparation over time are important for birth just like they are for any other intense athletic event. And in the end most couples I've spoken to have said that they enjoyed the time spent together learning and preparing for their baby.
