It is so wonderful that you are looking into natural childbirth. It is truly a beautiful, gentle way to birth, and it really is something that most women can achieve.
My husband Ricky, who is all about everything “organic” and “natural,” was the one who actually suggested we try natural childbirth when we were expecting baby #1 in 2003. We wanted to be in control of the course of our birth (in as much as that is possible) and also worried about the side effects of common medications on mom and baby. I had seen a lot of women attempt to give birth without medication on The Learning Channel, but I did not know if it would be possible for me. With the support of my husband and the preparation we received through The Bradley Method®, it most absolutely was. I can honestly say that I loved giving birth to my 5 children, 4 daughters and a son. Labor and childbirth, though hard work, were also exhilarating and magical.
In preparing for my own births I did a lot of research and enjoyed learning as much as I could. Giving birth and caring for my babies I learned even more. I would love to share whatever I can with you and your husband (or other support person of your choice) in order to help you both achieve an empowering, positive birth experience.
Classes will cover nutrition, so that you can do your part to stay healthy and low risk. They will also cover the stages of labor, the mechanics of pushing, and provide basics on breastfeeding. You’ll learn about common medical routines and protocols as well as how mom and coach can work together to effectively manage labor without meds: abdominal breathing, relaxation, and different labor positions. Ultimately, though, this class is really about making you aware of all the choices you have in childbirth and helping you acquire the knowledge and training to make the choices that are right for you and your family. We’ll do labor rehearsals, practice relaxation (so bring pillows), view birth videos, engage in informative discussions, and even play some educational games. The time will pass quickly and be well worth your while.
Please contact me when you are ready to sign up or if you have any questions about Bradley or my classes.
Classes meet once a week for 12 weeks and last about 2 hours each week. The cost is $300, payable by check, with a $50 deposit due to hold your spot.
