I have three children born naturally... one in a hospital, one in a birth center, one at home. I have been teaching since Jan 2000 and have made improving maternity care (locally, regionally, and nationally) my passion and life's goal.
Each mom/couple enrolled in my class will be encouraged to:
- learn to take care of themselves and their baby through good nutrition and exercise
- learn to be a good consumer of maternity care services (know your options, decide what you want, and assemble a team to support you and your choices)
- learn and practice relaxation (and lots of other non-medical means) as the most efficient means of handling pain during labor
- learn good communications skills between your and your partner and between you and your maternity care provider
- understand complications (including cesearan and induction) including when it is medically necessary and when you have options to decline or delay
