About me and why I wanted to be a Bradley® instructor

!!! Hi there !!!

Congratulations, I am so happy you are looking into the option of natural birth for your new family member! I hope that I will be able to help you reach your goal.

Even parents who do not plan on a natural childbirth should consider taking Bradley® classes so that they are aware of how to make informed decisions and know what their rights are as a consumer.

My name is Stacy, I have three amazing children, two girls and a boy. My experiences have lead me to want to help couples learn to make the best decision for their family by giving INFORMED consent in addition to learning about nutrition, exercises, what to expect during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum, how the coach can help, breastfeeding, and much more!

My first child was born in October of 1995 and was a fully medicated (epidural and then pitocin) birth. I can’t say that this was a horror story as I have heard others say when they chose to do a natural birth with later children. In fact I feel for the most part I was in good hands. However I had an 11 year gap between my first and my second child, and in that time I learned a lot and stored that information until I was ready to have our second child in October of 2006.

When I became pregnant with our second child, I then began to draw the information I had been storing for such a long time and began reeducating myself. One of the first decisions I made was that I wanted to have as natural a birth as possible, the second was that I wanted to take the Bradley® classes, and the third was that I wanted a homebirth. I did indeed take the Bradley® classes and have a natural birth at home with a midwife. My two experience were so different from each other, it was at that point that i decided to have all future children not only naturally but at home.

My third pregnancy was by far my most challenging for both the pregnancy its self as well as the labor. After 26 hours of labor at home where I had planned to have our baby, we decided to go to the hospital due to several minor complications and the unusual amount of pain I was in (Bradley talks about this in class 8- this could be a sign of a true problem). It turned out that the baby was literally hung up in her cord and we now know (we didn’t at the time I was laboring at home) that she was having issues descending because of this and the fact that when she would tuck her head she would cut off her oxygen. Fortunately, not long after getting to the hospital she was born naturally with out medication like her older brother but we were where we needed to be to make sure she was healthy and safe, so although I still plan to have any future babies at home. For her it was where we needed to be and I am glad we chose to go there.

I decided to become a Bradley® teacher because I continually told people what an amazing experience I had with my second child and slowly began to forget all the information that I had learned from the classes for reasons to go with a natural birth. Over time I just remembered the end result of an awesome experience and how wonderful I felt afterward.

I decided I could be of better help to people if I was actually trained to teach Bradley® classes. After nearly a year of training I finally became a teacher in April of this year and have had wonderful experiences teaching since, with some equally wonderful couples.
