Welcome to the personal web site of
SHANNON & WAYNE KELSCH AAHCC

My name is Shannon Kelsch, and I have been a Bradley(r) teacher since January 2002.  I have three daughters, the youngest whom I birthed using The Bradley Method®.  It was an awesome and life-changing experience for me, which is why I decided to become a Bradley® teacher, so I could teach others the principles that so affected me and my family.

I considered myself an informed person, but I hadn’t heard of The Bradley Method® until I was pregnant with my last child, who was born in 2000.  The midwife I was seeing required her clients to take a Bradley® class.  My husband, Wayne, and I went through a 12-week course, and we both learned so much.   We had our daughter, Maya, in October 2000; she was born at home in the water with her closest loved ones watching on.  I was so relaxed during labor, and relaxation is the key to The Bradley Method®.  It was completely different than my first labor, which was 10 years prior.

During my first labor, I had no training in relaxation; I was taught altered breathing patterns, and my classes were only about 8 hours long.  I didn’t learn how my body works during labor or how to work with my body during labor.  After my first prepared childbirth series, little did I know that I was completely unprepared.  My first labor was full of tension: in my face, in my hands, in my feet.  Everywhere.  I was given a “muscle relaxer” to “take the edge off” of my contractions.  The drugs made me feel sick. The birth was, I thought, wonderful, but I knew there had to be a better way.

Natural birth is important to me, as a woman.  I feel birth is a rite of passage for a woman, whether it is her first birth or her twentieth.  She is changing in her body, mind and spirit, as a result of this experience.  It’s amazing to watch a woman work so hard to bring her baby into this world, with a loving coach by her side supporting and encouraging her in a way only an intimate partner is able to do.  This experience of childbirth bonds a family and brings them closer together.  It’s awe-inspiring, and when I see this relationship unfold before my eyes, I know that this is the right way to birth.  This is the best way to birth, and it should be valued, honored and respected.

My classes consist of a full 12-week series.  Each class is about 2.5 hours long, so you get about 30+ hours of class time.  I cannot take more than 5 couples, so if you are interested, please call me soon to reserve your space.  Classes do reach capacity rather quickly.

I still have openings in my SPRING 2010 class (EDDs of June through November), which begins Tuesday, April 27th, 2010.

I am able to accept students for the spring series until May 18th.

It is never too early to register for class!
