Here are some frequently asked questions about our classes...
What is The Bradley Method®?
The Bradley Method® is a childbirth preparation program that teaches you to work with your body using relaxation. It is also called Husband-Coached Childbirth because we train your partner (husband or otherwise) to support you during labor. By understanding the birth process you will be empowered to make informed decisions and have the best, safest, and most rewarding birth experience possible.
What happens in your Bradley Method class?
Throughout the 12-week series we will cover nutrition, relaxation, exercises, pregnancy, the coach’s role, the three stages of labor, the physiology of labor, birth plans, potential variations and complications, natural pain management techniques, breastfeeding, and skills for a new family. To keep things interesting in class we will do relaxations, labor rehearsals, watch birth videos, play games, and discuss current literature. We will also have local Bradley couples come share their birth stories. Classes are kept small (no more than eight couples per series) so there is an opportunity ask questions and get to know the other couples.
When should we take The Bradley Method® class?
You need to have enough time to complete the 12-week series before your sweet little one arrives. Therefore, it is recommended that couples begin the class during the fifth, sixth, or seventh month of pregnancy. Refresher classes are available at no charge for couples that complete the class before their baby’s arrival.
But I’m not five months pregnant yet…
That’s okay! Feel free to contact me as soon as you’d like. I would love to start answering your questions about pregnancy and help you in any way I can.
What are the dates and times for your classes?
Our summer session begins on June 2nd and our fall session begins on August 25th. Please email Rachel (birthandearth@gmail.com) if you have questions. Private classes are available if you are unable to find a series that is suitable for your needs.
*** Our summer class is filling quickly - space available for two more couples before we move to a waiting list! Please contact me ASAP if you are interested! ***
Where are your classes located?
Our classes are held in a midwifery office in downtown Phoenix, near the intersection of 7th Street and McDowell Road. The classroom is in a peaceful historic building that is conveniently located close to I-10, SR-51, and the light rail.
Bonus Classes Included
The class fee also covers a full breastfeeding class taught by a board-certified lactation consultant, a postpartum workshop taught by a professional postpartum doula, and a nutrition workshop taught by a nutrition consultant. These are classes that you would have to pay extra for elsewhere, but I include them in the class rate below.
What is the cost?
Our fee is $350. This fee includes a $50 non-refundable deposit. This cost covers 12 classes, student workbook, list of resources, access to my lending library, instructor availability for questions before/during/after birth, and a reunion celebration once all of the babies have arrived. Some insurance providers will offer a reimbursement for childbirth preparation classes. We consider offers for bartering in exchange for our classes.
Who is welcome to take your class?
We believe that preparation for a natural childbirth should be accessible to all families, regardless of marital status, sexual orientation, ethnicity, physical limitations, previous birth experience, or financial situation. Please don’t let any of these things get in the way of the amazing birth you deserve to have with your baby! Payment plans and scholarships are available for parents with limited means.
