When we found out we were expecting our first child in 2012, we were committed to doing as much as we could to prepare for the pregnancy and birth. In addition to reading stacks of books, doing plenty of internet research, and choosing our care provider and birth location, we prepared ourselves by taking a 12 week Bradley Method® class. We learned so much not only about childbirth, but about nutrition and exercise during pregnancy, anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and labor, and all the possible situations we might encounter during this process. The relaxation techniques, birthing positions, and knowledge of the birth process gave us the confidence and tools to achieve a successful, natural birth in an out of hospital birth center. Our second and third children were also born in birth centers in 2015 and 2017, and our fourth was born at home in 2019.
We felt calm, relaxed and prepared going into all of our births, and we enjoy sharing with others what a joy this process can really be. We were inspired to begin teaching The Bradley Method® in 2014 and became fully affiliated instructors in July 2015. Teaching this method to others gives us a chance to positively affect the birth community in our area, and encourage other couples to become informed about their birth choices so they too can have the best possible birth experiences.
