Why do I need to take childbirth classes? you may be asking.After all, you've been having regular visits with your doctor. You've signed up for the tour. Don't you simply call your physician when "it's time," check into the hospital, and have the baby? Isn't that what everyone does? Before taking classes in The Bradley Method® of Natural Childbirth, I certainly thought there was only one, inevitable way to experience childbirth, a way that nobody seemed especially enthusiastic about. Instead of facing birth with trepidation, I discovered ahead of time the myriad choices that I would encounter before and during childbirth, entering the experience armed with options, confidence, and excitement. But, why in the world would my husband need to take classes too? you say.What a blessing to train for and run the rewarding marathon of childbirth with a coach who has a vested interest in the best outcome, a healthy mom and baby. But the coach needs training and a handbook, too! That's why my husband joins us for every class. He offers experienced insight and mentoring for our coaches. The coach's integral role at birth ensures that mom focuses her efforts without distraction but with constant, knowledgeable support and encouragement.
