We have two boys, 14 years and 11 years old. One was born in the hospital with an OB, the other was born in the water at a birth center with a midwife. Both were joyful, unmedicated Bradley® births!
When I first got pregnant, I was terrified of labor and birth. All I knew about it was what I had seen on TV and in the movies, with screaming women who were frightened and in pain. I thought there had to be a better way. My husband discovered the Bradley Method® after talking to a Bradley dad on the plane during a business trip. We researched it, and decided to try it out.
After the first class, I was reassured and much less frightened. By the end of the 12-week series, I was confident and excited to go into labor! There was still a little anxiety, but not fear. I felt prepared to deal with any situation that might arise. After my first son was born, we asked the nurses how many unmedicated, natural childbirths they had seen. Only one had seen one before. For
the rest, ours was the first one they had experienced, and they kept
talking about it for the rest of our stay in the hospital.
After
attending Bradley® classes a second time, and experiencing the
completely different, but every bit as wonderful, labor and water birth
of our second son at a birth center, I couldn’t stop talking about everything I had
learned in class. In 2013, I finally realized it was time for me to stop talking about it and start teaching! I have been teaching continuously for 10 years, and I’m so excited to share my passion for natural birth with you!
